about

Prince passed away this year.
It is also the SNES 25th anniversary.

I loved them both so much. Nothing to add about Prince.

The SNES sound chip was made by Sony and was very unique, the last one that was custom made to output game audio (next hardware generations were powerful enough to run all audio on the CPU).

So I was playing with SNES sounds, composing a track. It sounded funky but I didn't know where to go, classic. And then I got the idea this year: what if Prince had composed something on the SNES? So I went on sampling an old live performance and making it as if he had been actively jamming on that sound chip. I tried to make it sound as close as possible to the original hardware while giving some room to live music dynamic. I had a good time. I hope you'll enjoy it.

Track statistics:
4 SNES banks (F-Zero, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario World, Custom)
1 Sampler (for all voices)
15 "channels" (Neo-Geo like sound quality)
Length: 3 minutes and 51 seconds
Events: 67,759
Times project was saved since its creation in Sept 2014: 279

Shout out to Nintendo and Sony engineers, musicians and sound designers especially Soyo Oka, Taro Bando, Yumiko Kanki, Naoto Ishida, Koji Kondo.

Prince, I came to love you, you was the shit and always will.

Peace,
